Purple Tuesday: Celebrating Inclusive Shopping at The Friary Guildford

News — Purple Tuesday: Celebrating Inclusive Shopping at The Friary Guildford

Today marks Purple Tuesday, a global movement dedicated to enhancing the customer experience for disabled individuals and their families. At The Friary Guildford, we’re passionate about creating an inclusive shopping haven where everyone feels welcome and comfortable.

We understand that accessibility is paramount, and we’ve implemented various measures to ensure that our visitors can enjoy their shopping experience. Our spacious aisles, wide doorways, and accessible entrances ensure easy navigation from the start of your shopping journey with us.

Our dedication to accessibility has seen us recently be awarded a Silver Award for Access from the Mayor of Guildford, Masuk Miah on Tuesday, October 17. Awarded by Guildford Borough Council, the award recognises a variety of things we have implemented which can be found via the Guildford Government website.

Dedicated Facilities for Enhanced Comfort

Recognising the needs of our customers, we’ve installed a Changing Places Toilet. Our Changing Places toilet is located on Level 2 next to The Alteration Yard, near Primark with facilities including a changing bench which is height adjustable, adult sized and wall mounted with a hoist suitable for use with a loop system sling amongst other things.

For those seeking a tranquil respite from the bustling shopping environment, our Quiet Room offers a safe space to do so. This calming space boasts dimmed lighting, soothing decor, and comfortable seating.

Accessibility at Your Fingertips

Our commitment to accessibility extends to our disabled toilets, fully compliant with the latest health and safety standards. You’ll find a single toilet on level 1 near Zara Home and another on level 3 in the food court. If you require access to the level 3 toilet, simply request a radar key from our Concierge desk on level 1.

For those seeking refreshments, Costa Coffee on level 2 also offers a dedicated disabled toilet for its customers.

Navigating with Ease

Inside the centre, we have two lifts and an escalator across the three floors, ensuring seamless movement. Additionally, an escalator between levels 1 and 2 is available within Zara.

A Welcoming Environment

Our dedication to inclusivity extends beyond physical accessibility. We strive to foster a welcoming and supportive atmosphere where individuals feel valued and respected. Our friendly and attentive staff is always ready to assist with inquiries, ensuring a positive and memorable shopping experience.
