What's On — Accessibility for All: How The Friary Guildford is Leading the Way This Purple Tuesday
At The Friary Guildford, we’re more than just a shopping destination; we’re a place where everyone should feel welcome. This Purple Tuesday, a global day that highlights the importance of accessibility, we’re delighted to share how we’re creating a space that works for everyone, every day of the year.
Creating a More Accessible Shopping Experience
In recent years, accessibility has been at the heart of what we do. We’re not only committed to ensuring a welcoming experience but also to removing physical and sensory barriers wherever possible. This commitment has led to tangible changes throughout The Friary, and last year, we were proud to be recognised with a Silver Award for Access by The Mayor of Guildford. This award from Guildford Borough Council represents our ongoing promise to make The Friary a place for everyone.
Facilities That Make a Difference
Our facilities are designed with diverse needs in mind:
-
Changing Places Toilet: Located on Level 2 near The Alteration Yard and Primark, this specially designed bathroom provides a height-adjustable changing bench, an adult-sized space, and a hoist for those who need additional support. These elements help make every visit as dignified and comfortable as possible.
- Quiet Room: For those who may benefit from a calm space away from the hustle and bustle, our Quiet Room offers soft lighting, comfortable seating, and a peaceful atmosphere—ideal for a relaxing break during a busy day.
-
Accessible Toilets: Fully accessible toilets are available on Levels 1 and 3, located conveniently near Søstrene Grene and also in the food court. Additionally, Costa Coffee on Level 2 has a dedicated disabled toilet for customer use.
Moving Around With Ease
Navigating our three floors is simple and accessible. We provide two spacious lifts and escalators that make moving between levels seamless, while an additional escalator within Zara ensures an easy connection between Levels 1 and 2.
A Focus on Inclusive Service
Of course, accessibility is not just about physical features. Our friendly and attentive staff are always ready to help, whether it’s answering questions, assisting with directions, or offering support. We’re here to make every visitor feel respected and valued.
