The Friary — Fabric Technician
Job overview
We are seeking a skilled Fabric Technician to deliver high-quality reactive and planned fabric maintenance across site. You will support day-to-day operations by completing PPMs, responding to client requests, maintaining compliance documentation, and carrying out a wide range of building repairs to a high standard.
Key responsibilities
Reactive fabric maintenance
- Carry out reactive building/fabric repairs including carpentry (locks, cubicle and panel repairs), painting and decorating, and general handyman tasks.
- Complete tiling repairs and installs to a high standard (strong tiling capability is essential).
- Undertake minor repairs and adjustments such as loose handles, toilet seats, fixtures and fittings.
- Assist with furniture moves and support minor building works to maintain site presentation.
- Respond to client requests promptly and ensure issues are resolved within agreed timescales.
Planned maintenance (PPM) & inspections
- Complete scheduled PPM tasks and support the wider site team in delivering planned works.
- Carry out fire door inspections (training provided).
- Assist with routine compliance activities such as flushing, tap temperature checks and meter reads.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation to demonstrate compliance.
Operational support & collaboration
- Support shift operations and contribute to emergency response where required.
- Assist with basic mechanical maintenance and repairs as needed, and support HVAC/plumbing servicing activities.
- Work collaboratively with the site team and contractors to ensure safe, efficient delivery of works.
Skills, knowledge & experience
- Proven experience in building/fabric maintenance within a commercial or facilities environment.
- Strong practical skills across carpentry, painting/decorating, and general repairs.
- Excellent tiling ability with attention to finish and detail.
- Ability to plan workload, prioritise reactive requests, and complete PPMs to schedule.
- Comfortable completing compliance checks and maintaining clear maintenance records.
- Customer-focused approach with good communication skills.
- Flexible to work late shifts and weekend rota as outlined.
Training & development
Training will be provided for fire door inspections and site-specific compliance processes to ensure you are fully supported in the role. Preferable: candidates who already hold fire door training (or are willing to complete it) will be at an advantage.

Working pattern:
Mon–Sun, 07:00–16:00 (core).
Thursday late shift (1 in 3): 11:00–20:00.
Weekend rota (1 in 3): Sat 08:00–18:00, Sun 11:00–17:00.
